Engagement Contest Winner!
Our Bride, and contest winner, Kate Adamo, was nice enough to let us post her winning entry! It is definitely worth a read, and watch how their wedding journey begins...
I was sick on Valentine’s Day so my then-boyfriend (now fiancé!), Mike, cancelled our dinner reservations at the Chart House in Weehawken and stayed home with me, nursing me back to health. He rescheduled our Valentine’s Day dinner for the next weekend we were free: Saturday, March 10th.
That Saturday, Mike and I received wonderful news: the bid we put in on the townhouse of our dreams was accepted! We were completely thrilled to receive such exciting, life-changing news! But I suddenly felt very nervous about buying a home with my boyfriend without the commitment of an engagement. Mike assured me that everything would work out and that he wasn’t going anywhere. That night, we drove into Weehawken to make our 6:00 dinner reservations at the Chart House. All through dinner, Mike kept looking at his phone, texting, and left the table two times to “go to the bathroom.” I figured he did not feel well and tried to hurry through dinner. He kept pressuring me to order a dessert that would take 30 minutes to prepare. I told him that I didn’t want it and I just wanted to head home because I was tired and he was “sick.”
When we got the car back from valet, Mike decided that we should go into Hoboken to get drinks to celebrate our new home. I told him that we should just go home because he didn’t feel well. He told me he felt fine and he just really wanted to go out and get a drink. We parked the car and walked along the waterfront in Hoboken, deciding which bar to go to. He stopped me at a bench and told me to sit down because that is where we had out first kiss. He leaned over and kissed me and pulled out a small black box from his jacket pocket. I immediately knew what was next and began sobbing LOUDLY! When he opened the box and asked me to marry him, I saw the ring of my dreams! He put it on my finger as I continued to cry. I couldn’t stop staring at the sparkly new addition to my left hand as he pulled me over to the 3Forty Grill. Before we stepped in the restaurant, I realized that I never even said “yes!”
When we entered the restaurant, Mike told the greeter that we were meeting people there. In my head, I assumed we were meeting our friends that live in Hoboken. Mike told me to walk to the right and I was shocked and surprised to see my parents and Mike’s parents sitting at a table together waiting to celebrate with us! As soon as we approached the table, our family and the whole restaurant erupted with cheers and applause (apparently everyone knew about our engagement, except me!) The rest of the evening was spent celebrating our engagement with our parents and some more family members who surprised us! It was the most perfect evening I have ever experienced!
